rule changes
The owners have voted and passed rule changes on kickoffs and for instant replays. Kickoffs will now take place on the 30 yardline instead of the 35. coverage players will aslo now only get a 5 yard running start instead of a 10-15 yard running start. The return team will also be able to use a two man wedge for blocking. The change for instant replays is on every scoring drive. The booth will now have to confirm all scoring plays so the coaches wont have too waste a challenge on them. There is also now only two challenges with the possibility of a third if you get the first two right instead of starting with three. A minor change that was passed was for the change of the field color. If the team wants to change it they will need league approval. Many kick return players were upset with the rule changes since now the kickoff will most likely result in a touchback. The value of them has decreased and now they arent as important as they once were.

wow, i did not know that they changed so much for the NFL. I wonder if the officials realized what they were going to do to the kick return players when they made this decision. I do not think it is very fair to decrease the value of these players.
ReplyDeletethe rules have changed but in my opinion, i think this will only make the competition in the NFL better. Athletes will have to work alot harder for their money; i think that's great. I mean, they do make millions of dollars to show up in a uniform and play football, am i right?
ReplyDeletethe kickoff is the most dangerous part of the game, more injuries happenj on those plays than any other. Unfortunaely thge KO return for a touchdown is one of the most exciting parts of games and the excitement will be reduced greatly by the move. How do these moves relate to the lockout? Are there any players on the competition committee that made the cahnges? Why or why not?
ReplyDeleteCorrect me if I am wrong, but if the move was from the 35 to the 30 yard line, wouldn't that place the ball five yards further away from the opposing endzone? Which I think would result in more returns and less touchbacks. As far as the whole issue with the instant replays, I don't see where each scoring play being reviewed is an issue, I saw quite a few failed attempts that still resulted in touchdowns last season.
ReplyDeleteNo Joe, it want from the 30 to the 35.
