rule changes

The owners have voted and passed rule changes on kickoffs and for instant replays. Kickoffs will now take place on the 30 yardline instead of the 35. coverage players will aslo now only get a 5 yard running start instead of a 10-15 yard running start. The return team will also be able to use a two man wedge for blocking. The change for instant replays is on every scoring drive. The booth will now have to confirm all scoring plays so the coaches wont have too waste a challenge on them. There is also now only two challenges with the possibility of a third if you get the first two right instead of starting with three. A minor change that was passed was for the change of the field color. If the team wants to change it they will need league approval. Many kick return players were upset with the rule changes since now the kickoff will most likely result in a touchback. The value of them has decreased and now they arent as important as they once were.

lockout

With the NFL lockout in effect the season looks to be in doubts for this year. The players union decertified on Friday when an agreement could not be accepted on both sides. With the lockout in full effect the players are not allowed into the training facilities or to even see their coaches. The Players Association has made many propsals to solve the questions that the oweners have raised. The owners never did justify there demands for the worst deal in pro sports. The only thing that will take place is the draft in late April. There is now some questions that are being raised about wether the top draft picks will even show up to the draft. The league is looking to expand the season to 18 games. This would mean more money for the owners but the risk for injury to the players also increases. The players see this and dont want to extend the season by 2 games. The league had two years to make a deal and they couldnt so only time will tell if they get a deal done in time.
